Sanborn Gun Shop Firearm Transfer Policy

Before you ship

  • Call us first. Before you have a firearm shipped to us, call to confirm that we will accept it. If the firearm or transfer is not accepted for any reason, you are responsible for return shipping costs and transfer fees, even if the transfer is not completed.
  • Shipper information. Make sure the shipper includes, at minimum:
    • Buyer's name
    • Buyer's phone number
    • Buyer's email address
    • Make, model, and serial number of the firearm
  • No packing peanuts. Please do not allow your shipper to use shipping peanuts. SGS will reject shipments that arrive with packing peanuts. Thank you!

Who we accept transfers from

  • We accept transfers only from an FFL dealer with proof of a valid license.
  • We do not accept private (person-to-person) sales unless all parties, buyer and seller, are in our shop in person with proper ID and any required permits.
  • SGS reserves the right to deny any transfer for any reason.

NYS SAFE Act compliance

  • Complete receivers: In addition to the transfer fee, the customer must purchase a NYS SAFE Act compliance kit from SGS. The kit will be installed on the receiver before pickup. (Law enforcement officers are not required to purchase this kit.)
  • If a firearm is not SAFE Act compliant and we cannot make it compliant with one of our NYS SAFE Act kits, you are responsible for the transfer fees and return shipping costs.
  • Firearms received with magazines holding more than 10 rounds: the magazine(s) will be forfeited to SGS, and the firearm may be transferred without them.

If a transfer can't be completed

  • If a transfer cannot be completed for any reason, the customer is responsible for all transfer fees and return shipping costs, plus $20 for repackaging and return delivery to the shipper.
